The Dolls Houses

Lake View Kitchen

I bought Lake View in 2019, it had been badly constructed, neglected and needed (still needs) a lot of work to bring it up to scratch. In July 2019 I jokingly said "Check back in about four years!" and here we are way past that deadline. The kitchen has taken a LONG time. Read more

Lake View Bedroom

I bought Lake View house in July 2019, in the first blog I wrote about it I said "I have grand designs for it, check back in about 4 years!!" And here we are just seven months away from that date and it's nowhere near finished! After doing the halls I sort of lost enthusiasm and eventually it was time for the talk - 'The longer I leave it the less likely I am to continue with it, so get your butt into gear and GET ON WITH IT'. A New House

Yes dear reader, I have another house! I haven't finished Lake View yet, but this one was there and I couldn't resist it. After buying Lake View I told myself that I would only buy one more house and it had to be a Tudor one. I've always liked the Tudor and Jacobean eras.
There is a dolls house shop nearby that I visit now and again, and when I visited a couple of months ago there it was, right at the front of the shop, just waiting for me! At £375 though it was a tad above what I wanted to pay. Read more

Lake View Hall And Landings

I'm so glad the build of the hall and landings is finished, believe me dear reader the making of them frazzled my brain! it just seemed to take such a long time, partly due to me overthinking things, and re-doing some things.
I have wanted the Lake View house ever since I saw it on a website over ten years ago, but at over £300 for the kit, the price was prohibitive, and, apart from the price I knew I would never actually build it. Then in July 2019 I saw this on ebay for £100, huzzah, a done deal.

Lake View House

I bought Lake View House in July 2019. It was in a bit of a state.
It hadn’t been put together very well, it was badly glued, dirty, dusty, slightly broken in places, had marks all over it, and most of the magnet discs were rusty.
It had been neglected for some time.
I removed the doors and after a thorough inspection my first job was a bit of demolition.

Dolls House No.2

Here it is - 6 years in the making (on and off, in between other projects), lots of procrastinating a
lot bit of swearing, doing and re-doing, apathy, and just getting plain fed up with it, it's finally finished!

Dolls House No.2 The Basement

There has been a lot of inertia whilst working on this room, I think it's because it's the last room of the house and I got bored with it. When I did the lighting I forgot to take into account the basement rooms are much deeper than the other rooms, and therefore the lighting isn't really adequate. I should have put one at the front and one at the back. I might put some wall lights at the back. Read more

Dolls House No. 2 The Kitchen

Lighting was the first job I did in the kitchen back in 2016! Four years, and many rooms later I started working on it again. I really didn't know what style or colour I wanted. I had small samples of wallpaper dotted around the room, none of which I particularly liked so eventually I opted for a textured wallpaper painted white. Read more

Dolls House No. 2 Update

Dollshouse number 2 is taking a long time to complete but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I've been working on the kitchen for ages making everything myself so I have spent a fair amount of time working out how to make things!
In between taxing the little grey cells I have made some accessories for other rooms. Read more

Dolls House No. 2 The Lounge

At last, it's finished. I think I could have constructed an entire real life house of flat pack furniture in less time than it has taken to complete this room! There are a number of reasons for this:

1. I spend an inordinate amount of time staring into studying a room hoping for inspiration to strike
2. I don't always know how to accomplish what I have in mind
3. I can be a bit of a perfectionist, if something doesn't turn out well I will start it again, and again ...... until I get it right. Read more

Dolls House No. 2 The Dining Room

I'm very pleased with this room, it all went together with ease. The cabinet at the back, the table and chairs and all the ornaments came from dolls house No. 1 before I sold it on ebay. The sideboard is a new purchase. The wallpaper was from a company in Spain. I prefer to see things before buying
so I was a little concerned about the colours, Read more.

Dolls House No. 2 The Library

I sort of lost my way with this room. It was going to be a library/music/study room. Going with the library theme I couldn't really afford to do authentic bookcases so I used library wallpaper. That was 4 years ago! Then there was a recess during which time I was trying to decide what flooring to do, and I became absorbed with other hobbies. Read more

Dolls House No. 3

Me to my daughter:
Darling if I buy another dolls house would you come with me to collect is as you know I'm not confident travelling long distances and finding destinations (even with sat nav!!)

Daughter to me, in the nicest possible way and with my best interests at heart: Mother don't you think it would be  a good idea to finish number 2 dolls house before buying a third one. Read more

The Main Bedroom

I'm glad that's finished, well 90% finished, I need to add a few more embellishments, and I need to put a picture on the far wall between the doors, and a full length mirror on the wall at the side of the window.

It started well. Read more

Miss Teen's Room

I was looking for something (can't remember what) in my stash of dolls house stuff when I found this little mirror. I think it was among the things included with number 2 dolls house when I bought it from ebay. Read more

The Bathroom

It's always a pleasure and a relief when I finish a room, not just for the satisfaction of seeing my ideas and work come together, but also because it means I can start the next room! I seem to have been working on the bathroom forever.
One of the reasons for it taking so long is because I couldn't decide on the flooring, first it was wood, then I ordered some marble tiles online, but my maths skills are appalling so I didn't order enough and.... I didn't like them! So finally I decided on a sample piece of wallpaper from a DIY store.  Read More

Mr Teen's Room

Although Mr Teen's room was easier to construct than Miss Teen's, it wasn't without a few difficulties.
I wanted to create a New York type theme room. My first job was brick textured wallpaper.

Miss Teen's Room

At last I have finally finished one of the attic rooms which belongs to 16 year old Miss Teen. The main reason it has taken so long is that the rooms at the top of the dollshouse are not strictly 1:12. They start out as 1:12 but get slightly smaller on each floor. As a result it has been difficult finding furniture to fit. I cut the small round feet off the bed to make the scale look better!

The En-Suite

Hooray, the en-suite is finished! This is such a long post, hope you don't nod off half way through :-) Trouble is by the time I realised it was so long I really didn't want to start over again with a second one so I just kept going!

Lighting

Off the shelf dolls houses usually have pre-drilled holes in the ceilings of each room, anything else has to be done the best way possible. Drilling holes in the backs of the rooms is straightforward but I wanted to put downlights in the kitchen and bathroom, not straightforward. A standard size drill just won't fit into a dolls house size room! You can buy small hand drills but I'm not sure how effective they are.

The Halls

Work on the hallways has been painfully slow for two reasons.

Reason #1 My chronic inability to make up my mind!!
Reason #2 My brain just isn't wired to understand anything remotely to do with maths - equations, angles, calculations.

The Garage Floor

A few months ago whilst browsing in a dolls house shop I saw these real stone tiles and decided that, despite the cost

(2 boxes = £37), they would be perfect for the garage floor.

Basement Staircase

After spraying the basement I decided to put an opening in the top of the staircase at the back, leading from the basement to the ground floor. I knew it wouldn't be easy but I also knew it would bug me forever more if I didn't do it.

More Spraying

Work on my dolls house is usually confined to the winter months, however, I needed warm dry weather to spray paint various parts of it outside.

When I was a little girl I had a dolls house, made by my father. It had four large rooms, hallways and lighting.
